It is extremely light weight, yet it can resist cracking, splintering, or swelling because it absorbs and loses moisture slowly. Cedar products can last 25-30 years unfinished. It will be shipped in its natural golden color. You can leave it like that, or stain it with a water based oil stain that will slow the weathering process. If you leave it as is, it will naturally weather to a silver gray. Cedar has the US Forest Products Laboratory highest rating for decay and disease resistance. Fresh cedar odor is a mild insect repellent.
